WEDNESDAY
Caleb woke this morning, his eyes extremely swollen and stuck shut with goop (sophisticated medical term). His reddness is spreading and he is still in lots of pain. We called the doctor, they said to come in immediately. When we arrived they said they thought he might have cowasaki or a staph infection but sent us to the ER at Children's Hospital to find out. After 7 hours in ER, the hospital was very crowded, Caleb was admitted into the hospital.
In the ER they took a strep culture, it has blood on it. They gave him an IV, it took three tries to get all the blood they wanted. They did an EKG, his heart was beating irregularly. And, of course, we waited. They brought us crayons, pictures, cars, and a specialist came in to explain things to Caleb. She told him about the railroad tracks (veins) and the straw (IV) that would help to get medicine into his body. It was tough, but Caleb did great and made it through.
Once admitted into the hospital a whole team of doctors came in and took down our story and started trying to determine what was going on with Caleb. At that point they had ruled out cowasaki and strep, and were thinking a staph infection. After a long day, 8:00 dinner, and 9:40 bedtime, Daddy came and spent the night with Caleb.
