I realize after this post, my husband moved up to saint in the minds of many of our blog fans. Well, I'll just start by saying he is a much better single parent than I. One reason why? MORNINGS!!
As most of you know I HATE MORNINGS(to put it mildly)! so, when peter left town for the past 3 days I became single mom for 3 days, including 2 school mornings. YUCK!! That means instead of kissing Peter and Caleb out the door at 8:00 and sending Andrea out by 8:10, I would be getting our 8 month old dressed, fed, and in her car seat, our 3 year old awake, dressed, teeth brushed and fed, our 4 year old awake, dressed, teeth brushed and fed and our 6 year old motivated to be independent while I made his breakfast, lunch, and of course let the dog out. (are you exhausted yet? I am just writing about it) so let me pause and say thank you God for giving me a husband who compliments my weaknesses (mornings as well as the rest of them) and is willing and able to take over the morning commute. and thank you peter. so I'll just start and stop by saying I failed the first morning and Caleb was 10 minutes late for school. oh well. try again tomorrow.
So Friday morning was bound to be a success, right? My alarm went off at 6:30 and I was out of bed at 6:36 (miracle #1). I got a shower (miracle #2) and dressed before anyone else was awake (miracle #3). Caleb woke up on his own (miracle #4) and got himself going, Andrea was up and on her way and Micaiah woke up and I helped her get herself together. Everything was going very smoothly and I was ecstatic at the progress I was making. I had all clothes laid out the night before (miracle#5) and Caleb's lunch made, I even had Aussie, our new hamster, all packed up and ready to go (miracle #6). Of course, the day I am a single mom is the day Caleb is chosen to bring his favorite Christmas present to school! So as I said, things are going very smoothly and then I look outside! SNOW!! I did not account for shoveling any snow. urrrgh my perfect plans were sliding down hill. I attempted a quick recovery and did a sloppy shovel just behind my car. I recovered and we were still somewhat on schedule. I haven't been too grumpy to the kids either (miracle #7). We pull out of the driveway at 7:56 (miracle #8), 11 minutes past when I wanted to leave, but still 4 minutes earlier than the normal departure time. we were trying to get to school a little early to get Aussie settled in the classroom.
The adventures continue...we are about 5 minutes on the road and Elijah screams (very normal behavior for my 4 1/2 year old). "Aussie bit me!" He is mad and a little spooked, but not terribly hurt. Caleb told him to poke Aussie back in his box so he wouldn't escape through his breathe hole (this hole is the size of a dime) and Elijah poked to hard and Aussie bit him. Okay not a big deal, right? then the blood starts flowing down his finger tip, oh yeah did I mention the snow. The snow is still coming down and the plows can't keep up so the roads are awful this morning! ....so the blood keeps flowing, down his hand to his wrist and even drips onto his pants before I can safely pull over in this snowy mess. He was screaming and hysterical because of the blood, not the pain. We got our little wet wipes out, cleaned him up and we were on the road again. We make it to school at 8:28 (miracle #9), 2 minutes before the day began!
WOW!! things don't quite go as planned MOST days!
icing on the cake: i found time to blog this silly story(miracle #10)

I love you and miss you...maybe I should come help????
what a beautiful story! I sure am glad I am not the only one that has "difficult" days....
why are some of your posts posting?? we can see them from our "updated" area, but if we go directly to your blog then we can't?? puzzling!
single parenting isn't fun for anyone..that is why God's plan was for each of us to have a partner!
sure does make the heart grow fonder when they are away...and especially when they come home again!
Thank you for sharing the story! :) I know you and mornings...I was stumped by miracle #3!! You are AMAZING!!
Thanks babe but you're the real saint. I'm blessed to have such a wonderful wife. I didn't know it when I married you, but I've also found the world's best mom, cook, family manager, accountant, chauffeur, etc.... And to top it off I'm married to my best friend! I'm so grateful for you.
